Join Virtual NYC Urban Sketchers today in exploring the history of nations celebrating Thanksgiving Day. Grab your favorite art supplies as we create works of art for a holiday filled with gratitude and abundance.
The United States isn’t the only nation with a holiday dedicated to gratitude—There are 17 nations that celebrate their own version of Thanksgiving traditions . For many, this global holiday began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest.
Canada, Grenada, Japan, Norfolk Island, Germany, Liberia, Netherlands and Puerto Rico just to name a few celebrate their own versions of “harvest of thanks” holiday much like the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Hence in honor of Thanksgiving Day, let us all immerse ourselves into the rich tapestry of time honored celebrations, festivals and rituals celebrated in the USA and all throughout the world during this very sentimental time of year.
